La réponse courte
Choose POS hardware around where people sell, how often they print, the connections available and any local fiscal requirements. Test the final device, software and printer together before ordering at scale.
Match the form factor to the job
A handheld terminal suits delivery, queue-busting and small counters. A larger tablet or fixed Android terminal gives more space for catalogues and longer shifts. Consider charging, grip, screen visibility and the counter footprint.
- Map fixed and mobile selling points.
- Estimate daily receipt volume.
- Check battery and charging routines.
Test printing and connectivity
Built-in printers reduce the number of parts a mobile worker carries. Bluetooth or network printers can suit a fixed setup, but pairing and recovery must be easy for staff. Test the actual paper width, receipt content and local network.
- Print a complete real receipt.
- Reconnect after power or network loss.
- Confirm USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and mobile data needs.
Confirm lifecycle and compliance
Ask about supply, warranty, replacement and remote support. If fiscal components or approved models are required, confirm the exact configuration for the target market rather than assuming a similar device is acceptable.
- Pilot before bulk purchase.
- Keep spare chargers and paper available.
- Document the approved configuration.
Test the complete setup, not the specification sheet
Processor speed, memory and battery capacity matter, but they do not predict the whole checkout experience. Install the production POS build, load a representative catalogue and connect the exact printer, scanner, cash drawer or payment terminal planned for the merchant.
Run the device through a busy shift simulation. Search a large catalogue, scan damaged labels, print long receipts, switch users, lose network access and recharge between sales. A real-device test can expose pairing delays, thermal problems, poor screen visibility or paper access that a product brochure will never show.
- Test with the final Android version and security policy.
- Measure a full working shift rather than a short demonstration.
- Confirm remote update and support access without weakening operator controls.
- Repeat the test after any material hardware or software change.
Plan ownership and replacement before rollout
A low purchase price can become expensive when chargers, paper, batteries or replacement units are difficult to source. Agree who owns the device, who may reset it, how merchant data is protected and how quickly a failed unit can be replaced.
For dedicated checkout devices, consider whether application restrictions or managed-device controls are appropriate. Android's official enterprise guidance describes dedicated devices as fully managed equipment used for a specific purpose, including checkout registers. That approach requires deliberate provisioning and administration; it should not be assumed from the hardware alone.
Comparer les choix pratiques
| Setup | Often fits | Verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Handheld with built-in printer | Deliveries, mobile sellers and small counters. | Battery life, grip, paper access and mobile connectivity. |
| Tablet with external printer | Flexible counters and visual catalogues. | Stable stand, printer recovery, charging and cable layout. |
| Fixed all-in-one terminal | Long shifts and higher-volume checkout. | Counter space, peripheral ports, service access and backup power. |
| Existing Android phone | A low-cost pilot or occasional mobile selling. | OS support, receipt options, device ownership and durability. |
